Dr. Spivak
Founder of Body by Heart | Plastic Surgery With Love™
Dr. Ryan Spivak is a plastic surgeon whose work in aesthetic surgery, awake body contouring, and surgical innovation has shaped his approach to modern body sculpting. A graduate of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, he completed his residency at the University of Southern California, where he developed the surgical foundation that continues to inform his practice.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Spivak has focused on advancing body contouring techniques, developing surgical systems, and training other physicians. His professional experience includes leadership in surgeon education, clinical protocols, and the development of high-volume aesthetic surgery practices.
In late 2024, Dr. Spivak founded Body by Heart with a vision to create a different kind of aesthetic practice—one where thoughtful surgical planning, patient-centered care, and beautiful, natural-looking results remain central to the experience.
At Heart, his philosophy is rooted in the belief that plastic surgery should be approached with intention, respect, and genuine care for every patient. He is committed to building a practice that values the individual behind every procedure and places the patient experience at the heart of everything it does.
Body by Heart was founded on a simple principle: exceptional care begins with heart.
Medical Board Probation & Transparency
At Body by Heart, we believe transparency, accountability, and compassion are essential to the physician-patient relationship. We recognize that trust is built through honesty, and that every patient deserves the opportunity to make informed decisions about their care.
Dr. Spivak has been on probation with the California Medical Board since 2017 and has continued practicing medicine throughout this period.
The probation relates to a mistake that occurred early in his career. After completing his plastic surgery training at the University of Southern California, Dr. Spivak began a fellowship. During a period when he was extremely run down and burned out, he made a serious lapse in judgment by using his fellowship director’s prescribing authority to obtain a refill of prescription sleeping medication for himself. When the incident was discovered, he was dismissed from the fellowship program and the matter was reported to the Medical Board.
Dr. Spivak took responsibility for his actions and voluntarily entered treatment through the Promises Professional Treatment Program in Los Angeles, a physician-focused wellness and rehabilitation program. As part of the Medical Board’s disciplinary process, he was placed on probation in 2017 with monitoring and other requirements.
Dr. Spivak has spoken openly about this chapter of his life and the impact it has had on him. He has described the experience as a turning point that strengthened his understanding of accountability and personal responsibility. It has also shaped his perspective as a physician, husband, father, and person.
During these years, Dr. Spivak was selected by AirSculpt to serve as its training director, helping train surgeons and develop surgical standards as the organization expanded nationally and became a publicly traded company.
In 2019, while on probation, Dr. Spivak co-founded Squlpt. His surgical work became an important part of the company’s identity and marketing. He ultimately chose to leave when he felt that his commitment to patient safety and surgical quality was no longer aligned with the company’s direction.
Those experiences ultimately led him to found Body by Heart in late 2024. He envisioned a practice built around a simple principle: patient care, surgical craftsmanship, and thoughtful decision-making should always remain at the center of the experience.
In many ways, his journey helped shape the vision behind Body by Heart. He set out to create a practice grounded in integrity, accountability, and genuine care for the people who trust him with their bodies.
At Heart, we believe that every patient deserves to feel heard, respected, and cared for as an individual. Our commitment is to approach aesthetic surgery with intention, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the trust our patients place in us.
